Excuuuuuuse ME!

Posted by SRM123 on 3/29/2008

It was quite an experience being soundly insulted by the Sushi Chef at what could have been a memorable meal at the Sushi Bar one afternoon. I've been a sushi fan since the early '70's when a friend and her Japanese mother took me to a tiny sushi bar in Westwood. I've always enjoyed the ambiance of eating at the bar and have had some level of interaction with the chef as I admired the skill involved in preparing each morsel. Only once have I felt like an intruder and that was at Harada.

Fresh Local Fish - This was a total surprise.

Coming from Los Angeles, we are used to the usual roll joints and some pretty high end places. I was kind of miffed that my wife insisted on sushi while we were on one of our frequent trips up here. The last thing I expected was to find a good Japanese place in Morro Bay. Let me say that the fish here is on par with the best anywhere. Harada offers the best fish from local waters which translates to a super sushi experience. Otoro from a Bluefin caught 65 miles straight out from this waterfront restaurant was the best I have had in a long time. The main chef is slightly ornery, which adds to the vibe of this gem. Don't tell him your from L.A. or he will tell you how little you know about sushi and deride you for ever eating mayonnaise or garlic with your raw fish. Just for fun, ask him what he thinks of the famous socal sushi chefs like Nobu and you will get an earful about how your brain is drowned in soy sauce like the 911 rolls you eat from these restaurants who get their fish by truck delivery. BTW, The Spot Prawns from local water are not to be missed. Enjoy!

Best Sushi on the Central Coast

This place is awesome...it is located down on the waterfront in Morro Bay and offers the freshest sushi in town. The ambiance is tradtional and the sushi chefs are very professional. You will easily drop 50-100 on dinner for two, depening on how much you eat. So Good!!!
